Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTTasked the Prime Minister whether the provision for war was based on the assumption that the War might last for three years; whether the Government have considered the possibility of the War lasting for more than three years; and, if so, whether any steps are being taken to adjust the social, economic, and industrial organisation of the country to meet the strain to which it would be subjected?
§ The PRIME MINISTERThe Government cannot neglect the possibility of a long-continued struggle, and are doing all in their power to strengthen and husband the resources of the country to meet the strain.
