HC Deb 17 May 1915 vol 71 cc1969-70
21. Sir CHARLES HENRY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, now that the demand on the special constabulary of Berkshire to help the police at the Ascot race meeting has been withdrawn, any request has been made for this object for a supply of constables from the Metropolitan Police Force; and whether it is intended to send any of the Metropolitan Police to the Ascot meeting?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. McKenna)

No request has been made for the attendance of Metropolitan Police at Ascot.

41. Sir C. HENRY

asked whether it is the intention of the Government to introduce legislation to prohibit during the continuance of the War race meetings being held; and, if so, whether it will be done with as little delay as possible?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Asquith)

This question is receiving attention, but I do not think legislation will be necessary.
