§ 41. Mr. WILESasked the Postmaster-General if he has been in communication with the contractors as regards an increase in the wages of London mail drivers; and, if so, whether he can make a statement?
§ The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Captain Norton)After consultation with the contractors and with the Board of Trade, I came to the conclusion that the wages of the drivers must be increased as a temporary arrangement in order to comply with the terms of the Fair-Wages Clause contained in the contracts. The contractors have now arranged to grant an increase as from 1st March.
