HC Deb 28 June 1915 vol 72 cc1464-5
51. Sir EDWIN CORNWALL

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been called to advertisements recently appearing in the London Press describing the enemy air-craft raids in language of an exaggerated and alarmist nature; whether there is any censorship over such advertisements; and what steps he proposes to take to safeguard the public from such statements?

Sir J. SIMON

Exaggerated and alarmist statements, whether by way of advertisement or otherwise, are greatly to be deprecated. The Press Bureau has, at my request, invited the attention of newspapers to the matter, and I have no doubt the Press will exercise care in admitting advertisements on this subject to their columns.

Sir E. CORNWALL

May I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman has seen the copy of the advertisement I sent to him?

Sir J. SIMON

I saw the material my hon. Friend sent me, and it is on the lines of that material that I have given this answer.
