§ Dr. MACNAMARAThe Regulations provide for the award of pensions to the mothers of naval officers who are killed on duty, but the grant of any such pension is subject to the condition that pensions may be awarded only to mothers who are widows in distressed circumstances. In view of the wording and intention of the Regulations, I do not think that any award could be made in this case.
I take this opportunity, on behalf of the Board of Admiralty, of expressing our sense of the great loss which the Service has sustained through the death of this heroic young officer, and of our deep sympathy with his relatives.
