HC Deb 23 June 1915 vol 72 c1163
23. Mr. WING

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if the authorities at the War Office will issue instructions to commanding and other responsible officers to the effect that, in any reconstruction of military units for the more successful prosecution of the War, they will provide for chums and pals being kept together, seeing that many enlisted under the distinct promise that, as chums and pals, they would fight together as such in the New Armies?

Mr. TENNANT

Every endeavour is now made to keep soldiers as far as possible with their friends, and in their local corps, but the exigencies of the service may not always permit of this being carried out.
