Mr. SANDERSONasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether, in the case of original and reserve Territorial battalions, there is any system or inter-promotion of the officers belonging to such battalions; and, if not, whether he will consider the advisability of instituting such a system with a view to ensuring that, where possible, those who have the longer service and experience should have the first opportunity of obtaining promotion?
§ Mr. TENNANTI dealt with this matter in answers I gave to the hon. Members for Wandsworth and for Ipswich on the 20th April and 6th May respectively. There is already a system of promotion devised with the precise objects the hon Member has in view. The matter is too complex to deal with satisfactorily in an answer, but I will send the hon. Member a copy of an official letter which explains it fully.
