HC Deb 15 June 1915 vol 72 c543
17. Mr. TYSON WILSON

asked the First Commissioner of Works if he is aware that Messrs. Holloway, the contractors for the new Government offices in Great George Street, S.W., have sublet the marble work to a firm named Blackler, of Torquay; whether he is aware that this firm is not complying with the conditions of the Fair-Wages Clause; and whether he will take steps to at once cancel the contract this firm holds?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. L. Harcourt)

The answer to the first two questions is in the affirmative. I have seen Messrs. Holloway, who are in no way to blame in the matter, and have informed them that fair wages must be paid at once by the sub-contractor or the sub-contract will be cancelled.
