HC Deb 15 June 1915 vol 72 cc541-2
Mr. HUGH LAW

asked the Under-Secretary for War if he is aware that certain persons on the coast of county Donegal have been forbidden to burn kelp by the local military authorities, and whether, in view of the great importance of the industry and the entire dependence of the population upon it, he will see that the prohibition is immediately withdrawn?

Mr. TENNANT

I have no knowledge that an order prohibiting the burning of kelp has been made at Lough Swilly, but inquiry is being made into the matter and instructions will, if necessary, be issued that no orders of this nature which are not absolutely necessary for the safety of the garrison area will be made.
