HC Deb 07 June 1915 vol 72 cc64-5
7. Sir JOHN SPEAR

asked the President of the Board of Trade if any steps have been taken by the Government whereby, on the opening of the Dardanelles, Russian wheat will be secured for the direct use of consumers in this country without the interference of any ring or combination; and, if not, will he consider the advisability of taking action in the matter?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Acland)

The Government do not propose to acquire control of wheat from Russia, and they see no reason to anticipate the formation of a ring to deal with it.
