asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland on what grounds the Irish Government at the present time discourage the enlistment of policemen in the Regular Army and encourage the enlistment of countrymen engaged in the production of food?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Irish Government, so far from discouraging members of the Royal Irish Constabulary from joining the Army, they have encouraged their doing so up to the point of safety. I have already given the House full particulars on the subject
