§ Sir P. MAGNUSI beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer a question of which I have given him private notice: If, having regard to the disappointment that will be caused if no relief from spirit duty is provided for hospitals in the course of this financial year, it is his intention to introduce a Clause into this or the next Finance Bill to give such relief in the form of a Grant which will be based on the duty paid on spirits by hospitals last year, subject to investigation of an Advisory Committee working in connection with the Board of Customs and Excise?
§ The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. McKenna)I agree in principle to a Grant from public funds of the kind referred to in the question. I understand that this proposal meets with general approval, and I regret that time will not allow me to deal with the matter now. I propose, however, to do so on the first suitable opportunity.
