§ 34. Sir J. D. REESasked whether de ductions are being made from the pay of private soldiers on account of payments made last August by company pay sergeants, from which no deductions were made on account of sums disbursed for wives and children of such private soldiers paid directly to such wives, without the knowledge of such company pay sergeants; whether stoppages were commenced nine months after receipt of the excess payments; and what steps will be taken to mitigate the resulting hardship to men who were in no way to blame for the oversight and double payment?
§ Mr. FORSTERI have heard some complaints to this effect, and inquiries into the matter are in progress.
