§ 47. Major ARCHER-SHEEasked the Prime Minister whether he will consider, under existing legislation, the commandeering of all private motor vehicles, 534 other than those used for business purposes, in order to release for war work the services of thousands of young chauffeurs, mechanics, and others connected with the trade; whether he is aware that this course has already been adopted by the French Government; and whether, in view of the fact that economy in petrol is desirable, he will consider the adoption of this step in order to assist the nation at the present time?
