HC Deb 05 July 1915 vol 73 c22
36. Mr. R. McNEILL

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the supply of spelter in Australia is still under the control of German interests; and whether any steps have been taken or are contemplated for rendering Australian spelter available for the use of the British Empire against Germany?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Bonar Law)

As I explained in answer to a question on the same subject on the 1st July, large quantities of zinc ore are produced in Australia which before the War were manufactured into spelter in Germany. His Majesty's Government are now endeavouring to find some means by which the ore may be treated in the United Kingdom.
