9. Mr. JOYNSON-HICKS

asked the Secretary of State for India whether the Government of India has received a request from the Bengal, Bombay, and. Burma Chambers of Commerce representing the weight of commercial opinion in India, asking the Government to appoint a Commission to inquire into the conditions of the Volunteer Force and to suggest means of strengthening and improving it; and will he say what attitude the Government intends to adopt?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The Government of India have reported by telegraph that they have received an application from the Bengal Chamber of Commerce for the appointment of a Commission to inquire into the present state of the Volunteer Force in India, and that the matter is still under consideration.
