HC Deb 05 July 1915 vol 73 c25
46. Mr. CHARLES PRICE

asked the Prime Minister whether under the present Coalition Government he will endeavour to introduce an agreed measure of temperance reform curtailing the hours during which intoxicating liquors can be sold, with the object of assisting the people of this country to practise those principles of economy which various Ministers have urged upon their consideration?

The PRIME MINISTER

Much is being achieved in this direction under the Temporary Restriction Act and other emergency provisions. I would gladly consider any further proposals which my hon. Friend could assure me would be agreed to by all sections of opinion.

Mr. C. PRICE

May I ask the Prime Minister whether, having the Whips under his control, they are not a better channel for finding out what would be the opinion of the House?

The PRIME MINISTER

Yes, Sir, I am inclined to think they are.

Sir JOHN M'CALLUM

Is the Prime Minister aware that at a great many meetings which have been held in Scotland, resolutions have been passed embodying this principle?

The PRIME MINISTER

I believe that is so.
