HC Deb 05 July 1915 vol 73 cc38-9
3. Mr. R. McNEILL

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether large quantities of lead have recently been purchased in London on American account; whether, having regard to the fact that America is the largest producer of lead in the world, he has any information indicating that these transactions are contrived in the interest of Germany; and whether he proposes to take any steps to prohibit the export of raw material essential for the manufacture of munitions of war?

Mr. WALTER REA (Lord of the Treasury, replying for Minister of Munitions)

My right hon. Friend is informed that large quantities of lead have recently been purchased on the London Metal Market, presumably for export, though he has no information as to the object of this purchase. Pig-lead, however, is on the list of articles, the export of which is only allowed to place within the British Empire.
