Mr. STEWARTasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will cause inquiry to be made from all bankers as to accounts in their books which may have remained unworked for a longer period than seven years, with a view to investing such sums in the War Loan, so that the bankers' customers may receive the benefit of the interest and the country have the convenience of the loan of the money during the present emergency?
§ Mr. ACLANDMy right hon. Friend, for the reasons stated in his reply to a 1929 similar question by my hon. and learned Friend the Member for South Donegal, does not think he can usefully take steps of the nature suggested.
