47. Mr. KELLAWAY

asked the Prime Minister the number of women and children killed or wounded during the recent naval raid on the East Coast of England?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Asquith)

The number of women killed was thirty-nine, of children killed, thirty-nine. The Scarborough authorities have been unable to give the number of women and children wounded. The number at the Hartlepools and Whitby were, women 133, children 177. The figures of killed include those who died of wounds.

Might I ask if the Government will be prepared to suggest to the Recruiting Committee the advisability of issuing these figures as a recruiting poster?

They are now, I think, very well known.

asked the Prime Minister whether he will give the number of persons killed or wounded amongst the civil population during the recent naval raid on the East Coast of England?

The PRIME MINISTER

The total number of killed among the civil population was 127; of wounded (including an estimated figure for Scarborough), 567.
