REESasked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether the Government of India has declined to give Indian Army officers higher pay than that of their substantive rank when such officers are temporarily promoted owing to the casualties experienced in the War; and, if so, whether he proposes to takes any action in the matter?

Member refers to the case of an officer who officiates for a sick or wounded officer in a regimental appointment higher than his substantive appointment. In such case the officiating officer draws half the extra staff pay for the first three months of his officiating tenure, being the period during which the disabled officer draws the full staff pay. The practice follows the ordinary rules regarding officiating pay, and the Secretary of State sees no sufficient reason to modify it.
