HC Deb 22 February 1915 vol 70 cc34-5
21. Mr. BRIDGEMAN

asked the President of the Board of Education if the notice given by the local authority that they proposed to erect a new school at Dolgelly contained the statement that managers of any existing school, or any ten ratepayers, may appeal against the proposal within three months to the Board of Education; and, if so, why the appeal made by a body of managers and over 100 ratepayers was ignored by the Board?

Mr. PEASE

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, I can only repeat my reply to a similar question by the hon. Member on the 11th instant—namely, that the appeal was not ignored but was considered and replied to by the Board.

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

Was the right hon. Gentleman aware when he gave that answer that the local people, when asked to explain their objections, had stated the grounds of those objections in reply to the letter to which he refers, and since then there has been no answer?

Mr. PEASE

No, Sir; I have not received any notice as to the representations they desire to make to me, and until I do so I cannot undertake to receive a deputation.

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

Will the right hon. Gentleman kindly refer to the correspondence and he will see the answer, and since then there has been no reply?

Mr. PEASE

If it will be any satisfaction to the hon. Gentleman I will certainly read through the correspondence again.
