Mr. LYNCHasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, whether he has been informed that, in view of the commercial advances of Japan and the claims put forward by that Power in China, apprehension exists as to the security of development of British firms in parts of the Chinese dominion; whether any representations have been made to him either by British firms or by officials of the Chinese Government relative to the attitude of the British Government on this question; and whether he will take the matter into consideration and adopt any measures that may be advisable for securing that there shall be no infringement of any commercial freedom now enjoyed in China?
§ Sir E. GREYAs regards the first part of the question, no representations have 1287 as yet been made to His Majesty's Government. As regards the last part, His Majesty's Government will of course take British interests into account, and, when necessary, consider what measures are required.
