§ 20. Mr. EVELYN CECILasked the President of the Board of Trade whether the managers of the Admiralty coasting-trade office at Newcastle are paid a fixed salary, or whether their pay varies with the rates of freight they obtain for the interned enemy ships; and whether he will avoid any arrangement which might tend to raise freights contrary to the interests of coal consumers?
Mr. ROBERTSONThe arrangement with these gentlemen is on the basis of a fixed sum per annum for each vessel, together with a percentage on the net profits, but subject to a maximum rate of remuneration per annum which will, I think, have the effect desired by the hon. Member.
