HC Deb 17 February 1915 vol 69 cc1116-7
35. Mr. LEACH

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps, if any, his Department is taking to prevent the rise in the price of bread and the price of fuel?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I would refer my hon. Friend to the various steps referred to by the Prime Minister in the statement which he made to the House on Thursday last, the effect of which, taken together, will be, I hope, to relieve the situation.

Mr. HOUSTON

May I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman is aware that already a substantial reduction in the price of wheat has taken place since last Wednesday?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

Yes, Sir, there have been some fluctuations, but I regret to say some of them have been upwards.
