§ 83. Mr. R. M'NEILLasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that in many parishes where troops have been encamped or billeted additional expenditure by the local authorities has been thereby rendered necessary in respect of sanitation and other local services, to meet which increases in rates have been imposed; and whether it is the intention of the Government to make good to the local authorities the amount of expenditure so occasioned?
Mr. BAKERThe question of making good to local authorities expenditure of this character was considered in October last, and instructions were then issued to all General Officers Commanding defining the extent to which it might be defrayed from Army funds.
