HC Deb 11 February 1915 vol 69 cc723-4
76. Mr. GODFREY COLLINS

asked if the separation allowance paid to the wife of a married soldier is entirely stopped if the soldier is sentenced to imprisonment for four weeks or longer?

Mr. BAKER

This is the present regulation, if the soldier is serving at home. If he is serving abroad the limit is six months. These limits are under consideration.

78. Sir GEORGE TOULMIN

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether the arrangements for paying pensions to the widows of soldiers and sailors killed in the war are so advanced that no separation allowances will be stopped till the pensions are paid; and whether he can assure widows that there will be no interval, in any case, when the weekly allowance will be missing?

Mr. BAKER

Yes, Sir. Arrangements have been made to ensure that soldiers' and sailors' widows eligible for pensions shall begin to receive their pensions as soon as the issue of separation allowance, which is continued for a period after the soldier's death, is stopped.
