HC Deb 11 February 1915 vol 69 cc700-1
9. Sir JOHN LONSDALE

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he will give to the House the figures as to recruiting in Ireland which were compiled by the police and furnished to the hon. and learned Member for Waterford by the Irish Government?

Mr. T. W. RUSSELL (Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture, Ireland)

My right hon. Friend will furnish the hon. Member with a copy of the figures referred to. As stated by my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for War on the 8th instant, the figures can only be regarded as approximate, and in the case of recruits and Reservists include only those who have joined or rejoined from Ireland.

Sir J. LONSDALE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that when this information was supplied to the hon. and learned Member for Waterford, the War Office had refused similar information to Members of this House?

Mr. RUSSELL

I am not aware of anything of the kind. I only know that the Chief Secretary gave figures to the hon. and learned Member for Waterford, and that he is ready to give them to the hon. Member.
