HC Deb 10 February 1915 vol 69 cc578-9
82. Mr. WILLIAM THORNE

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been called to the report of an inquest held by the City of London coroner on 2nd February relative to the death of Henry Best, who was killed as the result of falling 46 feet down a shaft erected in connection with the new tube railway for the dispatch of Post Office parcels; and whether he can see his way to comply with the rider of the jury that this class of works of construction be brought under the Factory and Workshop Act?

Mr. McKENNA

I have obtained a report of this accident. The work on which it occurred was an engineering work, which would come within the provisions of the draft Buildings and Engineering Works Bill. I am anxious that that Bill should be reintroduced and passed, but I am afraid that nothing can be done during the present Session.
