HC Deb 10 February 1915 vol 69 c599
Mr. BONAR LAW

May I ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what method of procedure the Government propose to adopt in regard to to-morrow's Debate?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I understand that my right hon. Friend the Member for East Hull (Mr. Ferens) is putting on the Paper to-day a Motion dealing with the subject in general terms, and I think that a discussion on that Motion will be the most satisfactory method of raising the whole question in the widest possible form. The Motion, of which a copy has been furnished to me, runs as follows— That this House regrets the rise in the price of the necessaries of life, and calls upon the Government to use every endeavour to prevent a continuance of this unfortunate consequence of war, which is causing much hardship, especially to the poor.

Mr. HOGGE

May I ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if the Government intend to confine the discussion on the special Food Resolution to-morrow to one day, or, if there is a desire to extend the Debate, will the right hon. Gentleman consider that point?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I am afraid I could not give an answer to that question at present, and without consulting my right hon. Friend the Leader of the House, but the matter can be mentioned subsequently.
