HC Deb 04 February 1915 vol 69 cc152-3
37. Mr. BRIDGEMAN

asked which of the Commissioners under the Welsh Church Act are paid and what are their respective salaries; how much they have already received; and whether any sum for this purpose has been voted by Parliament?

Mr. McKENNA

Only the Chairman of the Commissioners, Sir Henry Primrose, is in receipt of a salary—Sir William Plender having expressed a wish to serve without remuneration. The Chairman is to receive £1,500 a year, and has already been paid £523 15s. 4d., which has been met out of advances made by the Treasury in accordance with the Act. No sum has been voted by Parliament on account of the Commission.

38. Mr. BRIDGEMAN

asked how many times the Commissioners appointed under the Welsh Church Act have sat, and whether their sittings have been postponed on account of the postponement of the appointed day on which the Act is to be enforced; and if the Suspensory Act has hitherto suspended any action which might not have been suspended under the original Act?

Mr. McKENNA

I am unable to inform the lion. Member the number of times the Commissioners appointed under the Welsh Church Act have sat, but they have met very frequently. I understand the answer to the second part of the question is in the negative. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative and will continue in the negative until the expiration of six months from the passing of the Act.
