HC Deb 21 December 1915 vol 77 c189
44. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Prime Minister in what area in the United Kingdom martial law is now in force or the ordinary law suspended and rights it conferred withdrawn by the military authorities; the reason for this; the power under which it is done without proclamation; and whether he will state the terms of the military order restricting civil liberty?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Asquith)

I am not aware that martial law is in force in any part of the United Kingdom.

Mr. GINNELL

Will the right hon. Gentleman answer the remainder of the question, whether civil rights have been restricted in any part of the United Kingdom?

The PRIME MINISTER

No, except under laws approved by Parliament.
