49. Mr. HEWINS

asked the Prime Minister whether he will give an undertaking in respect of employment in the various Government services that when filling up positions after the War preference will be given to those who have served their country under arms or in making munitions of war; and whether he will suggest to the municipal authorities throughout the country that they also should support this movement?

The PRIME MINISTER

The hon. Member's suggestions will receive the Government's careful and sympathetic consideration.

May I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman will communicate with the municipalities and public bodies throughout the country on the subject?
