HC Deb 27 April 1915 vol 71 cc569-70
71. Mr. JOYNSON-HICKS

asked the Home Secretary whether he has any official information showing that the champagne firm of G. H. Mumm is owned by two German officers and that the firm of Geisler is also owned by a German, who is in a concentration camp; and whether both these enemy firms are under sequestration in France, but in England are allowed to carry on business undisturbed?

Mr. McKENNA

I would refer the hon. Member, as regards the firm of G. H. Mumm, to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member for the Ludlow Division on the 15th March. The firm of Geisler and Company is, I understand, now under the management of an official appointed by the French Government, and their agent in this country, who is an Englishman, does business with that official.

Mr. JOYNSON-HICKS

Has the right hon. Gentleman made any further inquiries in France since the answer given to the hon. Member-for Ludlow as to the position of these two firms in France?

Mr. McKENNA

No, Sir, I have no record thereon, but I will inquire.
