HC Deb 22 April 1915 vol 71 c381
14. Mr. BOWERMAN

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that the managing committee of the South-Eastern Railway Company have closed Deptford Railway Station, to the inconvenience of numbers of workpeople employed at Woolwich Arsenal, who now have to avail themselves of a tramway service already overcrowded and insufficient, with the result that working time is lost each day; and whether, under these circumstances, he will endeavour to secure the re-establishment of the services from Deptford Railway Station to Woolwich Arsenal during the morning and evening?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I am aware that Deptford and two other adjacent stations were closed some weeks ago, and I was informed by the Managing Committee of the South-Eastern and Chatham Railway that they had found it necessary to take this step in order to meet the heavy requirements of Government goods traffic. I am, however, sending a copy of my hon. Friend's question to the committee for their observations, and I will communicate with him on receipt of their reply.
