§ 14. Mr. BOWERMANasked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that the managing committee of the South-Eastern Railway Company have closed Deptford Railway Station, to the inconvenience of numbers of workpeople employed at Woolwich Arsenal, who now have to avail themselves of a tramway service already overcrowded and insufficient, with the result that working time is lost each day; and whether, under these circumstances, he will endeavour to secure the re-establishment of the services from Deptford Railway Station to Woolwich Arsenal during the morning and evening?
Mr. RUNCIMANI am aware that Deptford and two other adjacent stations were closed some weeks ago, and I was informed by the Managing Committee of the South-Eastern and Chatham Railway that they had found it necessary to take this step in order to meet the heavy requirements of Government goods traffic. I am, however, sending a copy of my hon. Friend's question to the committee for their observations, and I will communicate with him on receipt of their reply.
