HC Deb 15 September 1914 vol 66 cc868-9
32. Mr. BENNETT-GOLDNEY

asked the Prime Minister if he is aware that the director of the British Museum is away from London on military duty; and if he will confer with the trustees as to the advisability of appointing a deputy-director during the absence of the director on military duty so that, in case of emergency, someone may be in authority to order additional steps to be taken to safeguard the national treasures?

The PRIME MINISTER

I understand that the director of the British Museum is returning from military duty, as the trustees consider it of importance that he should not be absent from his post during the present time.
