§ The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. J. A. Pease)On the same day as the Act became law a circular was issued to all local education authorities calling attention to the extended powers given them by the Act, and urging that prompt steps should be taken to prepare for any emergency that might arise. The returns since received do not 767 enable me to say to what extent advantage has been taken of the Act to provide meals out of the rates before the schools reopened, but a number of authorities have certainly used the Act to provide meals on Saturdays and Sundays.
