HC Deb 19 November 1914 vol 68 cc544-5
29. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Prime Minister whether he and the Secretary of State for War called together a committee to deal with the inadequate provision of reasonable facilities for employing the evening leisure of recruits; whether the representatives of the War Office did not even attend, and that the committee was politely dismissed; whether a committee of officers, under the presidency of the Adjutant-General, had been dealing with the same subject at the War Office; and, if so, why was another committee summoned by the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for War?

The PRIME MINISTER

I regret that there was a misunderstanding with regard to this matter, and I am sorry if any inconvenience was caused. Otherwise I can add nothing to my recent reply.
