HC Deb 19 November 1914 vol 68 c553
43. Mr. T. P. O'CONNOR

asked the Under-Secretary for War whether recruits can enlist for the 16th Irish Division at any recruiting station in Great Britain; and whether his attention has been called to the fact that in certain recruiting stations in Great Britain intending recruits had been informed that they could not recruit there for the Irish Division?

Mr. TENNANT

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, I should be glad if the hon. Member would send me details of any case where an intending recruit was refused, so that the matter may be investigated and rectified. The War Office are not aware that there have been any such refusals.

Mr. JOHN REDMOND

Would the War Office have any objection to publish a statement that recruits for the Irish Division will be taken at any recruiting office in this country? I can assure the right hon. Gentleman that I have had many cases of complaint made to me.

Mr. TENNANT

I was on the point of addressing my hon. Friend on that very subject when I saw this question put down. I will do so if I may be allowed.
