HC Deb 18 November 1914 vol 68 c409
15. Mr. BUTCHER

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether, in view of the desirability of including local authorities to proceed with housing and town improvement schemes so as to provide employment during the War, the Government will, at an early date, introduce a measure for simplifying and cheapening the present procedure for the acquisition of land for such schemes?

The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Herbert Samuel)

This suggestion was considered by the Government some weeks ago, but it was not found possible to frame any proposals which would be free from controversy.

Mr. BUTCHER

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that some corporations have passed resolutions in the sense indicated in the question?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

I do not recall any at the moment.
