HC Deb 17 November 1914 vol 68 cc398-400

Committee to consider of authorising the payment, out of the moneys to be provided by Parliament, of any Expenses that may be incurred in pursuance of any Act of the present Session to make better provision for the execution and maintenance of Land Drainage Works (King's Recommendation signified)."—[Sir Harry Verney.]

Mr. T. M. HEALY

I have read the Bill, and as far as I can see it does not apply to Ireland. The hon. Baronet knows a great deal about Ireland, having been for so long Private Secretary to the Chief Sectary for Ireland. Is there any reason why the Irish Department of Agriculture should not apply this Bill in some way to Ireland? If there is any advantage in the Bill for England, I think it might be extended to Ireland.

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Sir H. Verney)

That would require a separate Bill, as Ireland is not under the jurisdiction of the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries. It would require a Bill introduced by my right hon. Friend (Mr. Russell).

Mr. T. M. HEALY

Will there be an Irish Bill?

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. Member had better raise the point on the Bill itself. This Resolution is only to set up the Committee.

Question put, and agreed to.

The remaining Orders were read and postponed.

Whereupon Mr. SPEAKER, pursuant to the Order of the House of the 12th November, proposed the Question, "That this. House do now adjourn."

Question put, and agreed to.

Adjourned accordingly at Six minutes before Seven o'clock.

Mr. SPEAKER has, in pursuance of Standing Order No. 1, nominated

The Rt. Hon. Charles Beilby Stuart-Wortley,

The Rt. Hon. Charles Fenwick,

The Rt. Hon. John William Wilson,

Mr. Charles Henry Lyell, and

Mr. Thomas Power O'Connor

to act this Session as temporary Chairmen of Committees when requested by the Chairman of Ways and Means.
