§ 123. Mr. DENMANasked whether the wages paid to temporary postmen in Carlisle will be raised to 6d. an hour, which is the recognised minimum rate for labourers in the district?
§ Mr. HOBHOUSEThe present rates of payment to temporary postmen in Carlisle and elsewhere are based on the recommendations of the recent Parliamentary Committee, but the question whether any increase in these rates may be warranted is under consideration.
§ Mr. DENMANMay I ask whether the rates are below the rate paid to the labourer in any part of the country?
§ Mr. HOBHOUSEThe hon. Gentleman is introducing a question which involves a large number of rates and a large number of persons.
