§ 61. Sir WILLIAM BULLasked the Secretary of State for War if he will give particulars of the recent advertising campaign in favour of recruiting; the dates when it commenced and when it ceased; the total amount spent; and the number of men recruited directly and indirectly attributed to the advertisements?
§ Mr. TENNANTThe first advertisement appeared on 15th January and the last was on 16th February. The amount spent was between £4,000 and £5,000. It is quite impossible to say how many of the recruits taken since the first advertisement appeared can be attributed directly or indirectly to the scheme. Up to date 2,400 recruits for the Regular Army and Special Reserve have been taken in excess of the numbers for the corresponding period of last year, and an increased intake continues.
