HC Deb 19 May 1914 vol 62 c1780
84. Mr. F. HALL (Dulwich)

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he has received any information as to an attack by a number of men on a small body of policemen at Gleggah, county Galway, on 1st May; if the perpetrators of this out rage have been traced; if, in consequence of the disturbed condition of the district where the crime occurred, it has been necessary to issue instructions for the strengthening of all police patrols; and what further steps are proposed to be taken to secure the safety of life and property in the area affected?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Birrell)

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to a similar question by the hon. Member for Enfield on the 7th instant. The police are doing all that is possible to preserve the peace in this locality.

Mr. F. HALL

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware there are many cases similar to this occurring just now?

Mr. BIRRELL

Yes, but that is no reason why an identical question should be addressed to me when I have already answered it.
