Mr. KINGasked how many assistant school inspectors have been appointed since 4th August, 1913; how many have been appointed before and since that date; how many are now working at their duties of inspecting elementary schools; and whether it is intended to appoint at an early date any more elementary teachers as assistant school inspectors?
Mr. PEASETwenty-one assistant inspectors have been appointed up to the present time. Of these fifteen were selected for appointment before 4th August, 1913, and six after that date. Twenty are now engaged in the inspection of elementary schools. I propose shortly to appoint some more persons with experience of teaching in elementary schools to be assistant inspectors, and I am sending the hon. Member a copy of an announcement, relating to seven vacancies, recently made in the Press on the subject.
