§ Mr. TENNANTThe strength on 1st April, which is the latest date for which Returns are available, was: Officers, 9,465; non-commissioned officers and men, 251,838. During the first quarter of the year 390 officers joined and 220 left. The corresponding figures for non-commissioned officers and men are 27,450 and 15,367. Separate figures for non-commissioned officers and for men cannot be given.
