HC Deb 13 May 1914 vol 62 cc1106-7
86. Mr. HOARE

asked the President of the Board of Education what is the approximate amount that the London County Council will receive in the current year from the proposed Grants for the necessitous areas and the provision of meals, respectively?

Mr. PEASE

The Regulations will be issued in a short time, and the amounts due under them to each Authority will then be ascertained.

Mr. HOARE

Could not the right hon. Gentleman even now give the approximate amounts?

Mr. PEASE

It would only be a shot. I think I had better wait till the Regulations have been approved by the Treasury, then I can give the actual information.

Mr. HOARE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when the Regulations will be published?

Mr. PEASE

Very shortly, I hope. They are before the Treasury at present; I expect them back in the course of two or three days.

Lord A. THYNNE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether the Grant to London in respect to the provision of meals is to be calculated on a basis of 50 per cent. of the cost of providing these meals?

Mr. PEASE

I anticipate that it will certainly be 50 per cent. of the cost incurred in 1912–13, the last year for which we have statistical information.

Lord A. THYNNE

Calculating the cost of administration as well as the actual cost of the food?

Mr. PEASE

Well, I do not like to say exactly that that is so before I have the particulars before me.

Mr. HAMILTON

Will the Regulations include Grants for other areas to those mentioned in the question?

Mr. PEASE

Oh, yes.
