HC Deb 12 May 1914 vol 62 cc913-4
55. Mr. WATT

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether any preference is given by the officials of the Government-owned canal, the Crinan Canal, to the passage of the steamers or other boats of any particular owner or owners passing through the canal; if so, will he say who are the particular owners who get such preference; and why such preference is given, in view of the fact that the mails are not carried by steamer or other boat but by coach?

Mr. MONTAGU

In accordance with the Regulations, preference is given to passenger steamers running on scheduled time, for reasons which will be obvious to my hon. Friend.

Mr. WATT

How many owners of passenger steamers are using this canal in this particular manner?

Mr. MONTAGU

I think there is only one running steamers to scheduled time at the moment.
