HC Deb 11 May 1914 vol 62 cc710-1
52. Mr. JAMES HOGGE

asked the Prime Minister whether he is now in a position to state what action the Government are taking with regard to the recent gun-running in Ulster?

59. Mr. AMERY

asked the Prime Minister when he intends to take the appropriate steps to vindicate the authority of the law, promised by him on 27th April, with reference to the recent landing of arms in Ulster?

The PRIME MINISTER

The Government have decided not to take criminal proceedings against the persons concerned in the recent incidents referred to. Other steps are being taken which I do not think it desirable for the present to make public.

Mr. KEIR HARDIE

Will the right hon. Gentleman advise the Home Secretary to take a similar course with regard to women in this country?

Mr. AMERY

In consequence of that answer, I beg to give notice that I shall raise the subject of the irresolution of the Prime Minister in dealing with Ulster.

58 and 62. Mr. AMERY

asked the Prime Minister (1) if he can now give the House the names of the persons responsible for the recent landing of arms in Ulster; whether they included any Members of Parliament, magistrates, or clergymen; and (2) whether he is now in a position to inform the House what quantity of arms and ammunition was landed in Ulster on the night of 24th–25th April; and whether any more arms have been landed since that date?

The PRIME MINISTER

The Government have received certain confidential reports on these matters, but I am not prepared to disclose them at present.
