HC Deb 11 May 1914 vol 62 c708
31. Mr. HARRY LAWSON

asked how many Departmental Committees have been; appointed in the Post Office since the date of the presentation of the Hobhouse Committee's Report; whether any such Committees are now sitting and, if so, upon what terms of reference; and whether any Committee is now considering the general organisation of the Post Office administration?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

The number of Departmental Committees which have been set up in the Post Office since the date of the presentation of the Hobhouse Committee's Report is considerable, and it would not be possible, without muck labour, to furnish the particulars for which the hon. Member has asked. No Committee is at present engaged in considering the general organisation of the Post Office administration.

Mr. HARRY LAWSON

May I ask if the Postmaster-General is disposed to appoint any such Committee?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

I had not any such idea in my mind.

Sir GILBERT PARKER

May I ask if the Holt Committee had power under its—terms of reference to deal with reorganisation in so far as the classification of districts is concerned?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

Perhaps the hon. Gentleman will put the question on the Paper. I did not set up the Committee, and I do not carry the terms of reference in my mind.
